Trust Accounting Q&A: Change Bank Account on Trust Account

A new employee created a trust account under the wrong bank account number in TAS. Is there an easy way to fix this? We would prefer to not have to void or delete the trust transactions in order to recreate them on a new account under the correct bank account.

The Renumber Trust Account utility can be used to change the bank account associated with a trust account.

To change the bank account associated with a trust account

  1. From the Maintenance menu, point to Renumber and select Trust Account.
  2. In the Old Trust ID field, enter the applicable Trust ID.
  3. In the Old Bank Number field, enter the bank account currently assigned to the Trust ID.
  4. In the New Trust ID field, enter the same applicable Trust ID.
  5. In the New Bank Number field, enter the correct bank account.
  6. Click the Renumber button.

Note: The bank number must already exist in the TAS prior to renumbering. Additionally, you cannot renumber a Trust Account with combined transactions to use a different bank account. For more information on this function, review the TAS Help Topic, “Renumber Trust Account.”
